Frequently Asked Questions

The Short Manaslu Circuit Trek is a condensed version of the full Manaslu Circuit, circling the world's 8th highest peak, Mt. Manaslu (8,163m). It covers all key highlights - Larkya La Pass, Samagaon, Samdo, and Bimthang - in 11 days and approximately 110 to 120 kilometers of total trekking distance, making it perfect for trekkers with limited time.

The Full Manaslu Circuit Trek takes 13 to16 days and covers the entire route in greater detail. The Short Manaslu Circuit Trek completes the same iconic loop in just 11 days, covering all the key highlights - Larkya La Pass, Samagaon, and Bimthang - without missing any of the essential Himalayan experiences.

The trek is rated moderate to challenging. Daily walks of 5 to 8 hours, high altitude terrain, and the Larkya La Pass crossing at 5,160m make it physically demanding. No technical climbing skills are required, but good cardiovascular fitness is essential. It is not recommended for first-time high-altitude trekkers - prior experience at altitude is strongly advisable.

The highest point is Larkya La Pass at 5,160m - the crown jewel of the entire trek and one of the most rewarding high-altitude mountain pass crossings in all of Nepal.

Three permits are required - the Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (RAP), the Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP), and the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP). A local municipality entrance fee is also required. All permits must be arranged in Kathmandu through a licensed trekking agency before departure.

From September to November, the RAP costs USD 100 for the first 7 days and USD 15 per extra day. From December to August, it costs USD 75 for the first 7 days and USD 10 per extra day. MCAP and ACAP cost USD 20 each per person. A local municipality entrance fee of USD 7 per person is also required.

Yes. A government-licensed guide is mandatory by law for all trekkers in the Manaslu restricted area. Permits will not be issued without a registered guide. Mountain Eco Treks provides experienced, certified English-speaking guides on all departures.

Solo trekking is permitted in 2026, but you must still trek with a licensed guide. Permits cannot be issued independently - they must be arranged through a government-registered trekking agency like Mountain Eco Treks. The minimum recommended age is 13 years with good physical fitness and proper supervision.

The best seasons are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). October offers the clearest skies and most stable weather. Spring brings blooming rhododendrons and fewer trekkers on the trail.

The Short Manaslu Circuit Trek offers the same world-class mountain scenery and dramatic pass crossing as the Annapurna Circuit Trek-but with significantly fewer trekkers, deeper cultural immersion, and a more remote, off-the-beaten-path wilderness feel.

The trek passes through the Manaslu Conservation Area, home to the rare snow leopard, Himalayan tahr, musk deer, red panda, and a rich variety of Himalayan birdlife - all within a pristine protected ecosystem.

The Short Manaslu Circuit Trek is a fully supported teahouse trek - no camping required. Cozy lodges with basic but comfortable rooms and warm hospitality are available at every major stop. Teahouses serve a variety of Nepali and international dishes including dal bhat, noodle soups, pasta, pancakes, and yak cheese at higher altitudes.

The trek starts at Machha Khola or Soti Khola, reached by a private jeep drive from Kathmandu - approximately 8 to 10 hours. Mountain Eco Treks arranges all transport as part of our all-inclusive packages.

Yes - most nationalities can obtain a Nepal visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. We recommend carrying Nepali Rupees (NPR) as ATMs are not available on the trail. USD cash is widely accepted at teahouses and for permit payments. Always carry enough cash before leaving Kathmandu.

Basic WiFi is available at some teahouses in lower and mid-altitude villages for a small fee. Phone signal becomes very limited above Samagaon. We recommend purchasing a local Nepali SIM card (NTC) in Kathmandu for better connectivity in the lower sections of the trail.

Essential items include a down jacket, thermal layers, waterproof trekking boots, trekking poles, a sleeping bag rated to -10°C, a first aid kit, and a water purification system. A detailed packing list is provided upon booking with Mountain Eco Treks.

Acclimatization days are built into the itinerary at Samagaon and Samdo. Key tips include ascending gradually, staying well hydrated, avoiding alcohol, and recognising early symptoms of AMS. Diamox can be taken as a preventative measure after consulting your doctor.

Yes-the Tsum Valley Trek can be combined with the Manaslu Circuit for a longer, deeper cultural experience. The Tsum Valley is one of Nepal's most sacred and least-visited hidden valleys, located within the same restricted trekking region.

Yes - comprehensive travel insurance covering high-altitude trekking up to 5,500m and emergency helicopter evacuation is strongly recommended. At Mountain Eco Treks, a 20% non-refundable deposit is required at booking, with the remaining balance paid on arrival. In case of postponement, your deposit remains secured for future use.

The total cost depends on group size and inclusions. At Mountain Eco Treks, our all-inclusive 11-day Short Manaslu Circuit Trek package covers permits, licensed guide, porter, teahouse accommodation, all meals, and transport from Kathmandu. Contact us for a detailed 2026 price per person quote.

The Short Manaslu Circuit Trek is a spectacular off-the-beaten-path adventure in Nepal, and trekkers are required to obtain specific permits before entering the region. These include the Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (RAP)Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP), and Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP). As the Manaslu region is a restricted trekking zone, hiring a licensed trekking guide is legally mandatory, and the Restricted Area Permit must be issued through a government-registered trekking agency in Nepal.

The total permit cost generally ranges from USD 150–160 per person, depending on the season and itinerary. All permit arrangements, licensed guides, and complete trekking logistics are fully managed by Mountain Eco Treks, ensuring a safe, hassle-free, and well-organized Manaslu Circuit Trek experience.

Planning the Short Manaslu Circuit Trek with Mountaineco Treks requires understanding the road transportation from Kathmandu to the trailhead and back. Since the Manaslu region is remote and not directly connected by highway access, overland travel is a key part of the journey.

17 Feb 2025

We had the incredible pleasure of completing the Manaslu Circuit Trek last October, and every detail was perfectly organized from beginning to end. The highlight was undoubtedly our guide, Ram, whose unmatched professionalism, warmth, and expertise made the entire journey safe, inspiring, and truly unforgettable.

Ram was an exceptional guide—knowledgeable, friendly, and incredibly professional. His expertise in the region and its culture made every day of the trek more meaningful. He was always attentive to our needs, whether it was adjusting the pace or helping with any trekking challenges. He also shared fascinating insights about the landscape, history, and local communities along the way.

The trek itself was absolutely breathtaking. Manaslu is a stunning, less-traveled route, offering dramatic mountain views, beautiful villages, and a chance to experience authentic Nepalese culture. We felt safe and well-cared for throughout, thanks to Ram’s expert navigation and experience.

If you’re considering the Manaslu Circuit Trek, I highly recommend hiring Ram as your guide. His enthusiasm and dedication ensured that we had an unforgettable adventure. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime journey!

I recently completed the Manaslu Circuit Trek with Mountaineco Treks, and it remains one of the most remarkable adventures of my life. From beginning to end, the team was organized, attentive, and truly dedicated to keeping our journey safe, comfortable, and unforgettable. It exceeded my expectations and left me deeply grateful for the experience.

The trek itself was absolutely breathtaking—less crowded than Annapurna or Everest regions, with stunning views of snow-capped peaks, lush forests, and authentic Himalayan villages that offered a deep cultural experience. Every day felt like an adventure through changing landscapes and unique local traditions.

What made this trek truly exceptional was the organization and support provided by Mountaineco Treks. Our guide was knowledgeable, kind, and always made sure we were comfortable and acclimatizing properly. The porters were amazing—hardworking, friendly, and always smiling.

Accommodations and meals were well-planned and exceeded our expectations, even in the more remote areas. The entire team went above and beyond to ensure we were safe and happy throughout the journey.

If you're looking for a well-organized, authentic trekking experience in Nepal, I highly recommend Mountaineco Treks. Their local expertise, attention to detail, and warm hospitality made this adventure truly special. I’ll definitely be returning for another trek with them!
